Mission:
Our Mission is to empower and uplift 2SLGBTQIA+ youth by providing essential resources and access to support and education. We are dedicated to fostering equity and inclusion by connecting community members, advocating for intersectional identities, and driving impactful change through collaboration on policy and legislation. We strive to ensure that all 2SLGBTQIA+ youth have the resources and support they need to thrive.
Vision:
We envision a world where 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, particularly those with intersectional identities and people of color, have equitable access to resources and support. Our goal is to be a catalyst for positive change through education, sexual health awareness, and collaborative efforts to influence policy and legislation. By bridging communities and promoting inclusivity, we aim to create a future where every 2SLGBTQIA+ youth is respected, valued, and empowered to achieve their fullest potentials.
Brief History:
The LGBTQ Youth Advisory Council was born out of a roundtable discussion held in June 2022 between Governor Jay Inslee and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 13 to 18. During this pivotal conversation, the participants expressed a strong desire for greater youth representation and input on issues impacting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities across Washington State. Recognizing the need for sustained youth engagement, the idea for a Youth Advisory Council took shape.
In July 2024, the first 12 members of the council were appointed to serve two- or three-year terms. These young leaders, from diverse regions and backgrounds, were tasked with advising the Washington State LGBTQ Commission on issues affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, as well as promoting advocacy and policy recommendations that amplify the voices of young 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
